Spot light helps shaping
At night, by shifting a spot source of light around, the shadow on the rail can be used to very accurately fair a nice radius in its edge.  When it looks fair, shift the light and any hard spots will scream at you.  Here, a perfect job isn't that necessary yet since 4oz cloth goes over it next.  The design as on the plans is Plenty strong without these add-ons.  I like gripping a wider caprail and have experienced the strain of a big striper on a rod holder.  Broke the holder!  Saved the pole. Lost the fish
