Test fit of second and final layer
A dry run fit of the second clamp layer which brings the clamp to 1/2 inch total. The width of the sheer now is very comfortable as a grip and the sheer itself is much stronger athwartships. Previously without the clamp, it flexed 1/2 inch each way, which is alright and would have stiffened when the seat top is bonded in. but now it moves about 1/16 inch both ways. Overkill, but I can live with it. As designed, without the clamp, it was plenty strong for a small open cockpit daysailer.
