C17: "Early-warning" tape. I laid a 1" wide strip of FG tape all the way along the keel, and forward up the bow. When fairing the bow, I sanded down to this tape, stopping when it became visible through the fairing mixture. This way I have an extra (slight) bit of impact-resistant layer, but also have not sanded into the bi-axial tape across the bow.
