Might be on wrong forum because it´s a ship but why couldnt there be over 100 years old steel boats aswell which need some weld repairs. For 8mm plate i recommend 3millimeter gap for easy penetration. Mig wire for inside weld and if done in outside conditions then stick welding to outside welds
