I'm not sure it's possible to paddle kneeling for more than 5 minutes without pain. If it is, I haven't yet hit upon the right combination of padding and stuff. The canoe is highly sensitive to trim, so requires you to sit further forward going upwind and further back going downwind, so fixed seats/thwarts to rest against probably won't work. For now, sitting on the floor works as the canoe is narrow enough I can still reach pretty well to paddle.
