This really didn't work.  First, the thwart slides fore and aft far to readily, even with some grippy rubber stuff seized on.  Second, it's not very comfortable against my shoulders.

Gluing cleats inside the canoe could help the former problem, and a more sculpted yoke may help the latter.  But on the other hand, once you need to carry a paddle, PFD, cushion, bailer, crab trap, etc., I think I may look into improvising or (horrors!) buying a portage dolly/cart thing.
